ROAD TO SELF DISCOVERY

I have listened and read several publications on how to become an entrepreneur and I must say it goes beyond having required resources and a desire to be one. Over the years and based on experiences (mine and others) have realized that it is a process that must be followed to achieve the desired result.

Finding my purpose in God and not in work!

One of the hardest things to find is the kind of work that you want and gives you joy. We normally go for the interviews that we want but when we get turned down we start to tread on the road of second best and when that doesn't work we are on the home stretch of just any work as long as it pays the bills and sometimes that doesn't even happen and then your on the no job list.

BUSINESS AND GOD’S WORD

Starting a business is not as easy as it seems. It requires some key ingredients and guiding principles that needs to be adopted and imbibed for success. Relating this process with the word of God in prompting and motivating the prospective Entrepreneur is however crucial. Without sounding too spiritual, Only God can give the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to drive your concepts and the ideas. HE only gives the enablement and strength (Romans 9:16) to achieve the desired success.

Process Re-engineering, Your Choice

Every organization seek to improve their bottom line, remain competitive, enhance and streamline their operations, cut down on overheads and remove unnecessary activity in a bid to remain more effective and efficient. All these are focused on improving the profitability and increase the ability of the organizations to meet expectation of all the stakeholders.

MY EXPERIENCE

Experience is truly the best teacher. It sums up all the theoretical aspect of life teachings in one practical experience. If only our educational system can encourage practical form of teaching or activity based learning rather than the “copy and paste” approach where the teachers and students cram to achieve their purposes; teach and pass exams respectively. The students and the nation would have been better for it. Unfortunately, nothing is retained afterwards.

HAPPEN TO LIFE – "Take charge of your destiny"

Life is unfair and comes in different shades with variety of challenges, swings, etc. The level, degree or extent of occurrence may also differ. The crux however is our attitude and how we respond to such swings and challenges. Choice is one of the great gifts bestowed upon humanity. We can therefore choose to either react or respond. In essence, you can choose to “Happen to Life” (respond) or allow life to happen to you (react).

MOTIVATE YOUR STAFF

Motivation is one of the critical management and leadership tools used in driving desired employee performance and organizational goals. Unfortunately, the method and means of motivation have been so bastardized and abused by people in leadership position to the detriment of the same organization that claim to lead.

Responding to issues of life

Life is truly strange with different sides like a coin. We experience the different side of life at a particular point in time or for a life time. Life to some is like a bed of roses, all good and glamorous while to others, it’s full of pain and sorrows or a combination of good and bad but the degree might differ.

We have it!

Outsourcing non-core functions and activities has become an important tool in enhancing organizational efficiency and effectiveness. This allow Management to focus on other more pressing issues while allowing professionals take some of these burdens. This allows for a more effective use of Management time and available resources; including human and capital and in the long run save cost

WHY SHOULD YOU BE PREFERRED?

As an HR Practitioner, I have been privileged to either anchor or sit on quite a number of interview panels. One of the key questions that most applicants fail to do justice to is; “why do you want to work for us (company)”. It’s a golden opportunity to sell yourself and stand-out from the crowd as the preferred choice.

Why go it alone?

Most times we are faced with tough decisions in the choices we make or required to make that can make or mar our lives or future. Some decisions might seem trivial but are capable of changing our lives forever such as: what school to attend or course to study, what friends to keep, where to work, who to marry, size of family, etc. This could be a daunting task without the necessary background and experience to handle such.

THE PYRAMID EFFECT

I attended a training session recently and we were reviewing the hierarchy of an organization and it dawned on me that the unemployment situation will continue to worsen. Using the pyramid as a means of demonstration, as you go up the ladder, opportunity and rate of upward movement reduces, number of position available also diminishes as you move up. Imagine a situation where 100 people were recruited on the same and only one can rise to become the Managing Director (which is the highest point for an employee) at any particular point in time. The question then is “what happened to the remaining 99?” This is outside those that are unemployed.

Parents and Guardian: Guilty as Charged!

I recently watch a film title “The 3 Idiots” that showcases the pressure that parents placed on their children to do things or act in a certain way, relive their lost dreams, or study what the parents believe will bring pride to the family without a thought for the ability, affiliations or aspirations of their children.

YOU HAVE MADE MISTAKES, SO WHAT?

I woke up this morning around 1.30 am and decided to reflect on my past and discovered I had a lot to the thankful for. Quite a lot has happened over the past 5 years, made so many mistakes, took things for granted, got too comfortable in my comfort zone, etc. but I believe we all need to learn from our mistakes or at the least learn from the mistakes of others.

Life was smooth flowing for me from the beginning and had it good all the way, with no hiccups. Primary to Secondary, to University to the banking industry and never had delays. I got retained where I did 1 year mandatory service (NYSC) at age 23 and rose to the position of a Senior Manager before reality dawned on me and was forced out of my comfort zone.

The health Sector has been inundated with challenges of patronage, poor service quality, revenue generation, recovery of cost of treatment for emergency patients and accident victims and most importantly cost of keeping the facility running. Like every business, most healthcare practitioners are at a cross road of which one comes first: financial gains or their core value of saving lives. Most prefer the financial gain! I fully agree that bills will have to be paid while giving sufficient return to the operators. However, providing stabilization and the joy of saving a life I believe should give better satisfaction and sense of fulfillment.

Don’t you think it’s time?

What is the hope for our youth after spending so many years to educate themselves without a clue as to how to reap the fruit of their labour or the parents who have spent so much only to watch their children waste away at home all day or the nation that have failed to tap into such an army of young, talented and enterprising individuals?

 The recent Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment cataclysm that happened recently is a clear indication of the chaos and decay in our economy and the degradation that our leaders of tomorrow are made to go through.
